The Urban Design Compendium is published by English Partnerships and the Housing Corporation.

Urban Design Principles provides guidance on fundamental principles. Whilst Delivering Quality Places describes the processes needed to deliver quality in the built environment.

There are also case studies from all over the world, from a new build, mixed use brownfield project in Brighton to a 200 hectare sustainable development in Stockholm originally planned as part of the city’s bin for the 2004 Olympics.

Another interesting document is ‘PLACEmaking 2009 – A synthesis of professional practice and case studies about better living environments’, which is available as a free download from rudi.net. Topics include sustainability, stakeholders, communities and public places, and there are supporting case studies.

China Daily provides an international perspective with a piece on the rise of ‘green’ building in China and the ad hoc adoption of the USA’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) scheme.
